WebbMaster the Pilling-Bedworth ratio and oxidation mechanisms, as well as basic aspects of oxidation, in this free course. Learn how to calculate the Pilling-Bedworth Ratio in different metals as well as the fundamental aspects of oxidation, like the thermodynamics of oxide formation and kinetic analysis of oxide growth, in this free online course. Webb23 jan. 2006 · I'm confused because the pilling bedworth ratio for iron is between 1 and 2 (1.77) which is described as a 'protective' layer. The problem for high temperature oxidation is because iron has 2 common valences, +2 and +3. If only Fe +3, then Fe 2 O 3 could be stable in contact with the metal, and maybe very protective, as are Al 2 O 3 and Cr 2 O 3.
WebbDear Scholar,I am looking for some reference about Pilling-Bedworth Ration for amorphous and crystalline Iron Oxide (Fe2O3, Fe3O4, and FeO).
